The one thing Noho has always needed is a great cafe that you could pick up a delicious soup/salad/sandwich/pizza from. We were elated to hear that Brod Kitchen was expanding and opening up a location right on West 4th street by Washington Square Park and NYU. Heading over with fellow foodie blogger Jess Feakins of Big City Little Blog, we were greeted warmly by our hosts who had a plethora of pizzas, bite-size appetizers, and champagne waiting for us.
After making our way to a glass of Prosecco, we tried the selection of pizzas first, cleverly placed in mini pizza boxes. Both of us agreed that the standout was the "Drunken Ham" mini-pizza - juicy ham on a rich pizza with sweet marinara sauce and artisnal pizza bread. Next to them were the duo of "Soup Cups," with a choice mushroom or butternut squash. The latter soup was the most impressive, filled with richness while giving your immune system a boost before the holidays!
Taking a much needed food break, we headed over to the Viking-themed photo booth where they had a wild background to make you feel transported to the Scandinavian region - well, back in the Viking days! Once the sliders came out, we couldn't hold out for much longer and devoured on the trio of their signature "Brod Burger," Nordic Burger, and Fish Burger, with the Nordic being the standout. The other standout was a mouth-watering Roast Beef mini sandwich with a zesty horseradish spread. For dessert, the treats were abundant and to choose would be too hard! If we must decide, we'd go with the Tiramisu Cream Cups or the Mini Coffee Eclairs - but can you really go wrong with ordering both?
The Scandinavian accent in which Brod Kitchen makes their food is really what makes them stand out. We appreciated the apple sauce twist instead of basic ketchup with the shoestring fries and mini sausage rolls. Gourmet food with a unique point of view at a reasonable cafe price is what is going to make this location thrive in the area.
