NYFW: SS15 Projecto Mental

On Saturday we attended the US debut of Angolan brand Projecto Mental, for a showing of their Women’s and Men’s Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear collection. This colorful collection ranged from flamboyantly funky to classic simplicity. Now, we also apply this statement to the models, whose diverse and unique looks complemented the “pop” that each of these outfits contained. Angolan-born Shunnoz Fiel and Tekasala Ma’at Nzinga, the designers behind Projecto Mental, strive to bring Angolan culture into the fashion world through their brand. The menswear in particular was very striking in terms of either the entire outfit or a small yet crucial element. For instance, one of our favorite pieces was a Pepto-Bismal pink mens’ suit and capri harem pants. The entire suit was covered in a turquoise and purple “Saved by the Bell” theme song-esque pattern, and it was paired perfectly with a plaid white and turquoise button down underneath. Another outfit— more traditional grey pinstripe mens’ suit jacket—was complete with a matching below-the-knee legth skirt. We forsee this collection creeping its way onto the streets of Williamsburg and into the closets of the type of men who love wearing funky socks.
