GROOMED: Bearded Beauty

A few tips from our favorite local hair stylist Mark Schexnayder on how to keep your beard fresh.

1. Use the right products.

Mark suggests Dollar Shave Club for men who groom their beards regularly. Their packages range from around $6-$12.

2. Wash your beard as often as you wash your hair (or more).

Use a small amount of shampoo and conditioner on it and comb through. It will keep it clean and smelling fresh, as we know food drops in there more often than you'd like to admit.

3. Oils! Keep it shiny.

A little goes a long way, so don't over do it. As stated in a previous post, we love the NOW Essential Oils to dab into the beard. Comb through and let dry.

4. Cut your beard with scissors.

Mark suggests this as you can get a better shape and get more technical with the beard fitting your particular facial structure. "I normally have other people do it for me since they can get a better look, and most barbers can, so you can always ask for scissors instead of clippers."

About Mark Schexnayder: Mark studied at Vidal Sassoon, which has given him an incredibly technical skill when it comes to cutting and styling hair. An advocate of scissors vs. cutters for beards and buzz cuts, it's clear he has his own style in the hair styling world. His passion for making all his clients feel their best comes out in every cut as he doesn't let you leave the salon with one single hair out of place.
