IN CROWD: Artist KESH's LJUS2 Exhibit
Touching base in NYC this month at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery is LA based multi-media artist KESH. You may recall the 2013 collab line KESH x American Apparel, which gave us some well-needed b&w space.
Debuting her first East Coast solo exhibit entitled “LJUS2,” KESH preps the mind and third eye with neon lights transcending lines into glaring shapes - literally there’s a staring eye ball.
At the mid-January press preview the LJUS2 show is an entity all its own, with moving extremities of fur-scalped bloggers, champagne-tainted photographers, and lens-shuttering fashion.
The magic happening every few months at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery doesn’t just come to with the mounting of a few visceral art pieces. What’s the secret niche to this space? The contracted agreement to spend months in the gallery co-existing in constant rhythm with your art - no break between studio space and living space. This nourishes, at every stage of the project, the constant flow of the artists’ process and once complete, welcomes the public in to try and understand.
A crawl space made accessible by a ladder offered KESH a bedroom during her stay.
“I slept in the space for 2 or 3 months... and it eventually drove me mad,” she said.
KESH’s digital graphics, ink geometrics, and Picasso-esque strokes are printed on Plexiglas in waveringly mad 3D effects.
LJUS2 will be up from January 14th 2016 to February 14th 2016.
